HENDERSON’S HYPOCRISY

The Chief Minister’s desperate manoeuvrings about the Rudd Government’s plans to locate a nuclear waste facility in the Northern Territory will fool no one.

“The Labor Party will deliver a nuclear waste facility to the Territory and the Chief Minister is complicit in that process,” says Terry Mills, Leader of the Opposition.

“If the Chief Minister was truly opposed to a waste facility being located in the Territory Warren Snowden, Trish Crossin and Damien Hale would all lose their pre-selection for the Labor Party.

“The Chief Minister’s silence about the futures of his federal colleagues confirms he is a fraud on this issue.

“So rather than playing the Territory electorate for fools, the Chief Minister should be lobbying the Prime Minister for a guarantee that Muckaty Station will only be used if it meets the very highest safety standards and that substantial and ongoing compensation will be paid for locating a national waste facility within our borders.

“Compensation for accepting the nation’s radioactive waste shouldn’t stop at the traditional owners of the land at Muckaty Station.

“All Territorians are being asked to make a sacrifice for the good of the nation and all Territorians should be compensated for that sacrifice.

“The Chief Minister needs to ensure the traditional owners and all other Territorians are being adequately compensated.

“There should to be a levy on all nuclear waste entering the Territory’s borders and that levy should be paid to the Territory Government.

“Further the Federal Government must upgrade any infrastructure - road, rail or port – that will be used to transport the waste.

“The Chief Minister needs to stop his pitiful posturing on this issue and begin doing a deal that will adequately compensate Territorians for providing this service to all Australians.”

\"All Territorians are being asked to make a sacrifice for the good of the nation\"

No, all Territorians are being asked to make a sacrifice for the good of the government\'s election prospects in the federal seat of Hughes.
Long-standing local MP Dana Vale is leaving politics at the next election, and the government wants to assure voters in the Sutherland region that the nuclear waste from their local reactor will be going far, far away.

Mr Henderson isn\'t the one playing us for fools : those culprits would be his Federal colleagues : Hale, Crossin and Snwodon.
